An action is a part of a [[ref:glossary:rule|rule]] that performs some operation. The [[ref:glossary:rule_language|rule language]] has a number of pre-defined actions. Actions can perform validation, assign values to [[ref:glossary:attribute|attributes]], create, find or display [[ref:glossary:business_object|business objects]], start [[ref:glossary:process|processes]], display or print documents, [[ref:glossary:import|import]] or [[ref:glossary:export|export]] data, communicate with other software and perform other operations.
